Homer Pittard Students Donate for SRO Food Drive

Students at Homer Pittard Campus School, their families and staff contributed about 550 food items to the SRO food drive.

SRO Kerry Nelson, who coordinated the drive, said the food was donated to the Rutherford County Schools’ ATLAS program geared for students from preschool through high school whose families double up and live with another family or live in cars, motels and campers.

A majority of homeless students receive most of their nutrition at school. Students may not eat enough food on weekends, Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks or spring and fall breaks.

The ATLAS program provides food for children to take home on weekends and long school break at 27 schools.
