Investigation underway after mortar rounds found at Murfreesboro apartments

A Murfreesboro apartment complex was evacuated late Wednesday morning after several mortar rounds were found in the area.

Police were called to the Ashwood Cove II complex on North Tennessee Boulevard just after 10:30 a.m.

Authorities reportedly discovered several mortar rounds and a training hand grenade in a backpack near a trash compactor.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol’s bomb squad, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and Federal Bureau of Investigation all responded to the scene.

News 2 was told all of the devices were disposed of, but it remains unclear if they were real at this time.

Murfreesboro Police Department’s Criminal Incident Division is now investigating.
