La Vergne Life Safety Officer Attains Fire Officer III Certification

One of La Vergne’s firefighters has earned his certification for Fire Officer III through the State of Tennessee Fire Commission.

Life Safety Officer Allen McCormick received his certificate on June 17, 2020 after passing the Fire Officer III test. “It’s important to have a good base to stand on when working for the department,” says LSO McCormick. “This class really helped me hone in those skills so I can be a better asset for my colleagues here at LFD.”

“The Tennessee Fire Commission process and evaluation validates his knowledge and skills compared to other fire officers across the nation,” says Chief Ronny Beasley. “This was no easy task, and LSO McCormick’s continual pursuit of education and professional development is a mark of a dedicated officer and firefighter.”

McCormick has been with the department since 2001. He joined the department first as a firefighter, working his way up the ranks to lieutenant and now life safety officer. McCormick also spent five years during that time volunteering at the Almaville fire department.

Only one other member of LFD is a certified Fire Officer III. Several others are enrolled in program. The La Vergne Fire Department requires its lieutenants to be Fire Officer I certified and requires its Battalion Chiefs to be Fire Officer II certified. He is also a certified fire inspector and investigator.

The two-week course is designed for Fire Department Chief and Company Officers who are preparing to enter upper management level of their department. The objective of this course is to develop the Chief Officer for the administrative and operational challenges of the fire service in the 21st century.

Firefighters Josh Dickson and Josh Earp also recently earned their Fire Officer I certification.
