Lace up your tennis shoes for child abuse victims
“Be part of the solution to child abuse,” Child Advocacy Center Director Sharon De Boer said. “Lace up your tennis shoes and join your friends and neighbors for the 3rd Annual Hometown Heroes Walk for Children.”
“One out of 10 children is a child sexual abuse victim,” De Boer continued. “This means that everywhere you see children in our community – in schools, day cares, Sunday school classes, sports teams, cheerleading squads, choirs, bands – there are children who need our help.”
Community residents can support child abuse victims by walking in the 2 mile Hometown Heroes Walk for Children at 12 noon on Friday, April 20 from Murfreesboro’s Civic Plaza to the Child Advocacy Center at 1040 Samsonite Blvd. The opening ceremony will be held at 11:45 a.m.
A picnic lunch will follow at the Child Advocacy Center. Lunch will include grilled hotdogs, hamburgers, and all the picnic fixings, including the “chocolate room.”
The walk and picnic lunch are free to the public thanks to the presenting sponsor Project One Four A David Price Foundation and many generous community partners.
Pre-register for the event and purchase your Hometown Heroes Walk for Children t-shirt for $10 at www.cacrutherford.org. You may also register and purchase t-shirts the day of the event at Civic Plaza beginning at 11 a.m. The Child Advocacy Center is requesting that walkers pre-register so they have a count for the picnic lunch.
Walkers are encouraged to park at the Child Advocacy Center. Complimentary shuttles provided by Rover will depart between 10:30-11:00 a.m.
Since opening 18 years ago, the Child Advocacy Center and the Child Protective Investigative Team have worked together to serve over 14,000 child victims. Proceeds of the walk will be used to support the Child Protective Investigative Team services for child abuse victims, child sexual abuse victims, and drug endangered children.
The deadline for business partners to get their name on the event t-shirts is Tuesday, April 10. Please contact Kristina Troglen for more information at [email protected].
