The La Vergne Fire Rescue Department is excited to announce the department hosted its first live burn training exercise at its new training facility. This significant milestone represents a major advancement in the department’s ongoing commitment to ensuring the highest standards of safety and preparedness for its firefighters.
Six live burns were conducted during the training on March 21 for the newest LFRD Recruit Class, which is comprised of 12 firefighter recruits, including seven from La Vergne Fire Rescue and five from Smyrna Fire. Box 55 was also at the live burn to provide rehab and support.
The new facility is equipped with several shipping containers that provide firefighters access to realistic live fire simulations in controlled environments. This allows firefighters to practice the skills and tactics necessary for real-world emergency responses safely and efficiently.
“Today marks a significant milestone for LFRD,” said Chief Ronny Beasley. “This facility will allow our personnel to train in ways we’ve never been able to before, providing them with the critical experience they need to safely and effectively perform their duties in real-world situations.”
The live burn event is part of an ongoing effort to improve the department’s training capabilities. The new facility includes a variety of training props, a dedicated burn building, and a variety of rescue and hazard scenarios to ensure comprehensive skill development.
Training Officer Matt Frye commented on the importance of the new training facility, noting that it is critical to enhancing firefighter training. “We are committed to continually building up our training, and this live burn exercise is a prime example of that dedication. It’s essential for developing the skills and confidence necessary in high-pressure situations. This will undoubtedly elevate the level of service we provide to the City of La Vergne.”
