Long-time MPD sergeant retires after nearly three decades

Murfreesboro Police Department (MPD) Sergeant Sam Campbell retires after 28 years of dedicated service.

“I’m thankful for Sgt. Campbell’s 28-years of services,” said Chief Michael Bowen. “I wish him the best in his retirement.”

A retirement ceremony honoring Campbell was held Friday, Nov. 4, at the Murfreesboro Police Headquarters.

Campbell began his career as a patrol officer in July 1992, serving in that role for six years.

He became a detective in 1997 and continued until 2002, before being promoted to a sergeant in the patrol division.

Campbell also served as Commander of the Special Operation Unit (SOU) in 2006.

Before his retirement, Campbell served as purchasing sergeant and research assistant.
