Mayor Shane McFarland honored Public Works Technicians Miguel Morales and Stanley Dorelas as STARS during the Nov. 7, 2024, City Council meeting. After witnessing a two-vehicle crash, Morales and Dorelas immediately responded to help an injured driver until paramedics arrived on the scene.
The City first hired Dominic “Miguel” Morales as a part-time Public Works Technician I on Sept. 5, 2023. Morales was promoted to full-time Public Works Technician on Nov. 19, 2023. The City first hired Stanley Dorelas as a part-time Public Works Technician I on April 1, 2024. Dorelas was promoted to full-time Public Works Technician I on May 20, 2024.
The following is the nomination provided to the STARS committee:
“Miguel and Stanley were working along the roadway on NW Broad St. near the IMI Concrete industrial area on May 29, 2024, when they witnessed a serious auto accident. Both employees safely went over to assist the driver who had been hit by a cement truck. Miguel and Stanley approached the driver who was visibly injured and comforted him. Miguel and Stanely assisted the driver getting out of his car by carrying him by the upper and lower body. Miguel continued to hold the driver’s hand and kept him awake as paramedics arrived. In reflecting on the incident, both Stanley and Miguel both expressed their desire to help a citizen in need and represent the City well in doing so. These employees went above and beyond in assisting the injured citizen driver, showing tremendous empathy and compassion for the citizen, and representing the City in a positive light. They are both deserving of STARS recognition.”
