MED announces new general manager
On Wednesday, the Murfreesboro Electric Department Board of Directors appointed P.D. Mynatt as the new general manager of the utility.
“We are pleased to have Mr. Mynatt in this position,” said Rick Hardesty, board chairman. “This appointment will provide stability and a positive direction for the utility in the coming months and years.” Mynatt is currently serving as interim general manager. He has served MED for over 27 years as chief financial officer before he was named as interim general manager. A graduate of the University of Alabama, he started his utility accounting career at Bessemer Electric and Water Service in Alabama before taking positions at the Tullahoma Utilities Board and TVA. He joined MED in 1990. “We have a good group of employees who believe in the mission of public power,” Mynatt said. “They remain dedicated to doing an outstanding job for the people of Murfreesboro and to making sure our customers see no difference in service through this transition period. I am honored to be selected to lead such a great group of people.”
In recent years, Murfreesboro has become one of the fastest-growing cities in the nation, and MED has been proud to serve the city’s increased power needs with the construction of new substations like the one underway near Medical Center Parkway and another energized last year on Veterans Parkway.
MED has also repeatedly earned designation as a Reliable Public Power Provider by the American Public Power Association, an honor which places the department among the best public utilities in the nation. Thanks to sound financial planning, MED has made these achievements without a rate increase in the last six years.
The Power Board’s appointment of Mynatt as general manager not only provides steady leadership but also ensures MED can continue to provide excellent service to the people of Murfreesboro well into the future.
