MFRD Responds to Fire at 5002 Boyd Drive

Two Murfreesboro families are displaced after fire destroyed one home and spread to a neighboring home on Boyd Street Thursday morning.
Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department (MFRD) was dispatched to the fire at 5002 Boyd Dr., at 8:37 a.m., Sept. 19. Four people inside the home escaped unharmed. Two cats were seen running from the burning home.
Engine 5 was the first apparatus to arrive on the scene within minutes to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear of the structure. Engine 7, Rescue 9, and Ladders 4, 9 also responded and firefighters began aggressively attacking the fire. The home suffered major damage. No firefighters were injured.
“There were challenges extinguishing the fire,” said MFRD Acting Battalion Chief and Training Captain Terry Smith. “The houses are close together and the high winds caused the fire to spread to a neighboring home. Crews quickly extinguished both homes.”
Four residents in the burning home next door, 5004 Boyd Dr., also made it out safely. The home sustained moderate damage to the attic and right side of the structure.
The Heart of Tennessee Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting both families.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the MFRD Fire Marshal’s Office.
