Motorcyclist killed in Murfreesboro crash
Murfreesboro Police Department Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT) investigators are investigating a crash that claimed the life of a motorcyclist on Thursday, April 10.
The collision involving a motorcycle and a car occurred at the intersection of N. Rutherford Boulevard and Greenland Avenue. Officers responded to the scene around 10:30 p.m., where the motorcyclist was pronounced dead by personnel from Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services.
The preliminary investigation indicates the driver of a 2016 Ford Fusion was traveling southbound on N. Rutherford Blvd. in the left turn lane. That driver attempted to make a left turn on a solid green light, failing to yield the right of way, colliding with the bike. The rider of a 2024 Kawasaki EX5 was traveling northbound on N. Rutherford Blvd. FACT investigators are trying to determine if the motorcycle rider was speeding and if that was a contributing factor in the crash.
The motorcyclist’s identity will be released once out-of-town relatives are notified.
The driver of the car was not hurt.
The fatal crash remains under investigation by FACT.
Considering this fatal crash, and other motorcycle crashes in the city, the Murfreesboro police Traffic Unit, and members of the Rutherford County Traffic Safety Task Force will host a Motorcycle Safety Event on May 17 from 10 a.m. to noon at Bumpus Harley-Davidson of Murfreesboro on NW Broad Street.
