MPD Continues Traffic Enforcement Efforts Following ‘Operation Southern Shield’

The Murfreesboro Police Department is continuing its efforts to reduce traffic crashes on
Murfreesboro streets. The MPD Aggressive Driving Unit, along with other traffic officers have
increased traffic enforcement along US 231 S. Church St. as part of ‘Operation Southern Shield’.
Officers issued over 450 citations as part of the week-long enforcement campaign. The MPD is
continuing its efforts to reduce crashes by extending the increased enforcement to include NW
Broad Street.
“Officers will be specifically looking for speeding violations, following too closely, and seatbelt
violations,” said Traffic and Special Services Captain Cary Gensemer. “By reducing speed,
increasing following distance, and wearing seatbelts, drivers can make a significant contribution to
making our roads safer.”
Grant funding from the Tennessee Highway Safety Office helped fund the overtime initiative.
