MTSU Celebrates 10 Years of the Center for Chinese Music and Culture with Special Concert

Middle Tennessee State University is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its Center for Chinese Music and Culture, a program that brings traditional Chinese music and cultural exchange to campus and the surrounding community.

The center has spent the past decade introducing students to instruments and musical traditions from China through performances, education, and hands-on learning. Many students in the Chinese music ensemble begin with no prior experience playing Chinese instruments, yet through dedicated practice each semester they progress from beginners to performers.

To mark the milestone anniversary, MTSU will host a special concert featuring the university’s Chinese ensemble, returning alumni, and several guest musicians, including world-renowned performers on their instruments. The event highlights the center’s mission of sharing culture through music and giving students a unique opportunity to learn traditions from around the world.

Students involved in the ensemble say the experience requires dedication, but the opportunity to perform and learn about another culture makes the effort worthwhile. Music also serves as a powerful way to bring people together and help bridge cultural differences.

The 10th Anniversary Concert will take place March 21 at 7:30 p.m. in Hinton Hall at the Wright Music Building on the MTSU campus. Students, alumni, and guest musicians will perform together in a celebration of music, culture, and community.
