MTSU closes May 25 for Memorial Day; summer classes resume May 26

Middle Tennessee State University will be closed Monday, May 25, in observance of the 2026 Memorial Day holiday. All university offices will be closed, and no summer term classes will be held.

The university will reopen and classes will resume Tuesday, May 26.

Memorial Day is a federal holiday observed annually on the last Monday of May to honor and mourn U.S. military personnel who died in the line of duty while serving their country.

During the holiday weekend, the James E. Walker Library will operate on adjusted hours. The library will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 23, and from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 24, before closing Monday. Regular hours will resume Tuesday, May 26, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Campus Recreation Center facilities will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 7 p.m. Sunday but will be closed Monday. The campus recreation office will remain closed Saturday through Monday.

The Student Union and MTSU Phillips Bookstore, located inside the Student Union, will be closed May 23-25.

Throughout the Memorial Day holiday weekend, the public is invited to visit the MTSU Veterans Memorial, located at 628 Alma Mater Drive on the south side of the Tom H. Jackson Building. The memorial includes granite and brick displays honoring fallen military alumni, MTSU-affiliated service members, alumni veterans and military-connected organizations and supporters.

Following the holiday weekend, the next New to Blue orientation session for incoming first-year and transfer students will be held Wednesday, May 27, for students in the College of Basic and Applied Sciences, College of Behavioral and Health Sciences, College of Media and Entertainment, and University College.
