MTSU Hosts Large-Scale Active Threat Training With Rutherford County First Responders

Middle Tennessee State University Police joined first responders from across Rutherford County for a large-scale active threat training exercise on the MTSU campus.

Around 100 participants from law enforcement, fire departments and EMS took part in the multi-agency exercise, which was held in and around the MTSU Recreation Center. Several nearby buildings and parking areas were temporarily closed so crews could train in realistic environments they could potentially be called to respond to during an actual emergency.

The exercise focused on coordination between agencies and gave first responders an opportunity to better understand how their individual responsibilities fit into a larger emergency response.

MTSU Police aims to conduct a large-scale training exercise like this at least once a year, along with smaller training opportunities throughout the year.

While the scenario was only a training exercise, the goal is to make sure first responders across Rutherford County are prepared to work together when coordination matters most.
