MTSU’s Daniels Center honors The Palm restaurant for its support of veterans

The Charlie and Hazel Daniels Veterans and Military Family Center at Middle Tennessee State University this week honored The Palm Restaurant in Nashville for expressing its commitment to hiring and supporting those who have served in our country’s armed forces.

Retired Army Lt. Gen. Keith Huber, MTSU’s senior adviser for veterans and leadership initiatives, and retired Army Capt. Shane Smith, Daniels Center assistant director and employer search agent, presented a special certificate to Bryan Lytle, The Palm’s general manager.

Lytle, a former U.S. Navy corpsman who served as a medical specialist in the Marines, has been a vocal advocate for hiring veterans.

“The Palm provides a profound level of support for our military, our veterans and our first responders,” Huber said.

The restaurant, located directly across from the main entrance of Bridgestone Arena on 5th Avenue in downtown Nashville, has also been the host site for several fundraising events for The Journey Home Project, an effort by Daniels to raise money to support veterans, including the center at MTSU that bears his name.

The Palm joins numerous other businesses, including Dollar General and Waffle House, who have been similarly recognized by the Daniels Center.

“Community partnerships are the foundation of our career placement program,” Smith said. “These partners are opening the door for future opportunities for our student veterans.”

MTSU’s student veteran population is approximately 1,000, which includes family members. They receive strong support from the Daniels Center, which is the largest and most comprehensive veterans center on any Tennessee higher education campus.
