Murfreesboro Man Dies After Five-Hour Standoff on Haynes Drive

A Murfreesboro man died from several self-inflicted gunshot wounds after refusing police commands to come out of a home peacefully overnight.

The 37-year-old man remained barricaded inside in the Haynes Drive home for nearly five hours.

Police received a call around 3:28 a.m. Sunday from a friend saying the man had a gun and was going to hurt himself.

Members of the Special Operations Unit (SOU), crisis negotiators, and the drone team worked together to try and get the man come out peacefully.

Eventually, authorities heard several gunshots and found the injured man inside. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The incident remains under investigation.
