OHS students competing in local, regional, state competitions
Marley Poole, 11th grade going into 12th – selected to participate in Tennessee Governor’s School for the Agricultural Sciences at UT Martin. “TGSAS is a four week college experience for high school juniors and seniors. Scholars are exposed to various aspects of agriculture and natural resources in both the classroom, and through opportunities for hands on learning both on and off campus of UTM. Classes are taught by UTM faculty for 6 total college credit hours.” Marley will spend the month taking college classes with a select group of scholars from across the state and will be able to tour places like Bayer Research Lab, Tosh Farm, Tyson Food, TN State Capitol, UT College of Veterinary Medicine and Neyland Stadium, TN Department of Agriculture.
Hannah Harrell, upcoming 11th grader, qualified to compete at the Tennessee State FFA Prepared Public Speaking contest. She will be among 6 speakers competing at the TN FFA State Convention held at the end of June in Gatlinburg, TN. “The Tennessee FFA Prepared Public Speaking Leadership Development Event is designed to develop agricultural leadership, communication skills and promote interest in leadership and citizenship by providing member participation in agricultural public speaking activities.” Hannah has spent the last several months researching, writing and formatting her speech per APA guidelines, and memorizing her 8 minute long speech about the impacts that cancel culture has on the agriculture industry. After she gives her speech, she answers questions about her speech from a panel of judges for 5 minutes.
