Parks and Recreation Cancels June Summer Camps
Summer camps organized by Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Department (MPRD) are canceled for the month of June. Participants have been notified, and registration fees will be fully refunded.
“We know it’s disappointing for the kids,” said Rachel Singer, assistant director for MPRD. “Our staff looks forward to the camps as well.”
Camps beginning July 6 are currently scheduled to open as planned, provided all safety protocols can be met. For example, a camp of 18 participants will be divided into two smaller groups, and activities will be moved outside whenever possible.
“We are looking at each camp individually to see how we can adapt it to meet the health protocols set by the CDC,” said Singer. “The health and safety of our campers and employees are our main concern.”
With the cancellation of many other camps in the area, most of the MPRD camps are already filled. Singer recommends that parents check back often, though, as occasionally a spot will open up.
In the meantime, Singer recommends that parents check the Parks and Recreation Facebook pages for videos and activities to keep the kids active, both mentally and physically.
