Red Cross to Honor Military Children during Month of the Military Child

‘Military Kids Serve Too’ Event to Honor Children of Service Members

April is Month of the Military Child, and the American Red Cross Heart of Tennessee Chapter is proud to recognize military children and the special contribution they make as their parent/guardian is called to serve.

On Sunday, May 5th, the American Red Cross Heart of Tennessee Chapter will celebrate and honor military children at Military Kids Serve Too, a special event at the Discovery Center at Murfree Springs, to recognize the strength and sacrifice displayed by the children of Tennessee’s military and veteran community. Registration begins at 4:00 p.m., with the program beginning at 4:30. This event is one of many efforts taking place to celebrate military children across the state. The highlight of this fun-filled event will be a special challenge coin ceremony. Each child will receive a customized coin commemorating their special designation as our nation’s youngest patriots.

“We are honored to continue the 138-year legacy of the American Red Cross serving our nation’s military members, veterans, and their families,” said Kathy Ferrell, Executive Director of the American Red Cross Heart of Tennessee Chapter. “This event provides a unique opportunity to recognize and celebrate the children who sacrifice so much, including time with their parents as they serve our country.”

Children ages birth through 17 whose parent/guardian is currently serving in the US Armed Forces (active, reserve and guard) or is a military veteran are invited to attend the Military Kids Serve Too event. Space is limited. Admission is free, but reservations are required and may be placed online at www.redcross.org/MKSTMurfreesboro. For more information, contact Tonya Glasgow at [email protected].

Military Kids Serve Too program partners include Operation Military Kids and TN National Guard Child and Youth Program.
