Representatives Dawn White and Mike Sparks recognize Dan Whittle for his various contributions to our community.

State Rep. Dawn White (R-37) and State Rep. Mike Sparks (R-49) surprised local history devotee Dan Whittle Wednesday morning at Murfreesboro’s Sylvan Park Restaurant during the Truman Show on WGNS Radio.

“Dan’s contribution to our community is immeasurable.” Smyrna historian Marty Luffman stated “Back in the late 80’s Dan was actively involved in the media crusade to return the Smyrna Airport to local government. Dan still manages to keep us in stitches even when battling cancer. He is certainly an inspiration.” Says Rep. Dawn White, “Dan is a story teller first and foremost. But most people don’t recognize his work with organizations such as the Tennessee Fisher House and Habitat for Humanity.”

Rep. Mike Sparks, who serves on the Tennessee House Insurance and Banking Committee, thanked Dan for bringing awareness to the high cost of prescription medications during Dan’s recent battle with cancer. Frank Caperton, President of the Rutherford County Historical Society praised Dan for using his journalistic talents to help preserve and promote Rutherford County history in addition to the history of Canalou, Missouri (Dan’s hometown), in his book ‘Canalou: People, Culture, Bootheel Town’ and the Grand Ole Opry in his book ‘Music City: Behind the Stars’.

Dan and wife Pat Whittle are wholly committed to the people who make good things happen in America.
