Riverdale High School Hosts St. Baldrick’s Foundation “Brave the Shave” Head Shaving Event to Raise Funds for Childhood Cancer Research

With a Goal to Raise $30,000, Riverdale Faculty, Students, and Friends Will Go Bald or Chop Their Locks

Riverdale High School in Murfreesboro will host a St. Baldrick’s Foundation signature head shaving event on Friday, March 13, 2026, to raise money for lifesaving childhood cancer research. The event, known on campus as Brave the Shave, will take place inside the school gymnasium at 802 Warrior Drive beginning at 2:00 p.m.

With a fundraising goal of $30,000, students, faculty, administrators, alumni, cancer survivors, and family members will step up to shave their heads or cut their hair in support of the mission of the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, which funds groundbreaking research to find cures and better treatments for children battling cancer.

Participants, known as Shavees and Choppers, range in age from 6 to over 70 years old. Every organization on Riverdale’s campus is involved, including Student Council, Band, Cheerleaders, JROTC, and many others, making this a true school wide and community supported effort.

The Brave the Shave tradition at Riverdale High School began fourteen years ago when one of the school’s own was diagnosed with neuroblastoma. What started as a way to support a student and help find a cure has grown into a powerful annual tradition that unites the school’s 2,000 plus students and the surrounding community.

Childhood cancer remains a devastating reality for many families. In the United States, one in five children diagnosed with cancer will not survive. Those who do survive often face long term health effects from treatments that are too harsh for their developing bodies. As the largest private funder of childhood cancer research grants, the St. Baldrick’s Foundation continues to lead the charge in advancing research designed specifically for children.

Honored families at this year’s event include Huijuk Choe, a Riverdale High School teacher, along with St. Baldrick’s shavees, volunteers, supporters including the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, and donors who make the event possible.

Community members are encouraged to attend, donate, or participate. For more information or to register, visit the official event page at stbaldricks.org/events/Warriors2026.
