Robert Victor Greene obituary

If you’re about to say a prayer, stop. Consider: Robert Victor Greene (you probably knew him as Bob) who entered eternal life on Friday, August 17th, 2018 after a long goodbye with Alzheimer’s Disease. His spirit is carried on by his wife, four children, eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and an extended family of relations and friends from every walk of life. We were blessed to learn many valuable lessons from Bob Greene during his 92 years, among them: Be specific about your intent when you pray.

Also: Peace is your umpire. Call things that are not as if though they are. From the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. Cry when you need to. Go to a nursing home and love on people. Never say mean things about anybody; they are loved by God as much as you are. It’s not really a good idea to paint a car – especially a Chevy Impala – with a paint brush, and mashed potatoes lobbed across a table to the foreheads of fussy teenagers is an effective way of stopping the squabble and making people laugh. Read. Read everything. If you don’t know something, ask questions and look it up. Think for yourself. Dream your dreams and live them.

In his lifetime, Bob made meaningful contacts time after time, be it through laughter or tears. Those who’ve taken his lessons to heart will continue to ensure that there will still be loving kindness in this world.

Raised by his grandparents, John Hudson and Celestine Allen, in the tiny mountain town of Marshall, Arkansas, he grew up on the banks of the Buffalo river, spent time working at the local pharmacy as a soda jerk, and later, joined the Navy to proudly serve his country during WWII on the USS Half Moon as a radio operator. He knew Morse code until the day he could no longer communicate. He went to college on the GI bill, became a pharmacist and a true renaissance man, as he also later on became a hospital administrator and an ordained minister.

He is survived by his precious wife of 48 years, Betty Till Greene (whom he lovingly called Charlie and “Sarge”); Children: Donna Baines (Stan); Michael, Robert (Dawn) Molly Patton (Bryan), grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he adored, and friends and family too numerous to list but not forgotten. Bob is reunited with those he often remembered, and is likely having a fabulous breakfast, listening to jazz, and kicking up gold dust on the streets of glory.

There will be a memorial service at a later date. Online condolences and memories can be shared at www.woodfinchapel.com. Memorials preferred to alz.org. We are comforted knowing that Bob Greene knows who Bob Greene is again, and that he has met his Heavenly reward for a life and legacy full of love.
