Rutherford County Farmers Market Celebrates 50 Years of Community and Growth
The Rutherford County Farmers Market is thrilled to celebrate its 50th anniversary this year, marking a half-century of dedication to local agriculture.
Established in 1975 at the historic Murfreesboro Cannonsburg Village, the market has grown into a beloved weekly tradition from spring to fall. It is now housed at the Rutherford County Lane Agri-Park since 2009. Attracting over 45,000 local shoppers annually, the market showcases the best of Tennessee’s farm-fresh produce, meats and goods.
Over the past five decades, the Rutherford County Farmers Market has emphasized the importance of supporting local farmers and producers. With a diverse array of vendors, the market provides a platform for small business owners and agricultural entrepreneurs to thrive.
“The farmers market has always been about bringing people together,” says UT Agricultural Extension Director, Anthony Tuggle. “It’s a place where community members can connect with local farmers, learn about sustainable practices, and enjoy fresh, seasonal produce.”
The market caters to a wide range of visitors and the market’s diverse offerings include everything from organic fruits and vegetables, to locally raised meats, honey, and more. Additionally, the market hosts educational workshops and seasonal events to educate and connect with the community over agriculture.
