Rutherford County, TN CVB honored with Innovations in Sports Tourism Award for National Homeschool Soccer Championship
Sports Destination Management has announced that the Rutherford County Convention and Visitors Bureau and National Homeschool Soccer Championship are recipients of the 2022 Innovations in Sports Tourism Award. This year’s winners are responsible for contributing more than $2.42 billion to the national economy over the past year. Among the winners of the 2022 Champions of Economic Impact in Sports Tourism, the Rutherford County CVB is the only recipient in Tennessee to receive an Innovations in Sports Tourism Award.
What began as a small regional competition with just 12 teams has grown to be the premier national event for homeschool soccer. The NHSC outgrew two soccer complexes over the last 16 years and now brings in over 1,000 high school-age student-athletes representing more than 50 varsity teams from 14 states throughout the United States. In 2021, the NHSC collaborated with the Rutherford County CVB and Waypoint Travel to move its tournament to the Richard Siegel Soccer Park to accommodate its growing popularity. This event brings a total of 1,430 room nights to Rutherford County with a total economic impact of $1.4 million.
“Hosting the National Homeschool Soccer Championship has made an impressive impact on the local economy and provides a great opportunity for Rutherford County to be showcased as the Sports Capital of Tennessee ® to athletes, parents and fans from across the United States,” said Rutherford County Convention and Visitors Bureau Senior Vice President Barbara Wolke. “We are thrilled to be the only destination in Tennessee to receive the innovations award.”
