Late Night Semi Truck Fire on 840
The eastbound lanes of 840 at Exit 55 were blocked by the Tennessee Highway Patrol and local law enforcement for several hours Monday night and early Tuesday morning due to a semi-truck fire.
Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department’s Engine 5 and District 7 arrived just after 10:00 pm to find the tractor full involved. Fortunately, both the driver and passenger and their three dogs were able to exit the vehicle unharmed.
According to Captain David Cranford, Rutherford County Fire Rescue was also dispatched to the scene and assisted MFRD with water supply.
The two fuel tanks on the burning truck were leaking and according to Battalion Chief Mark McCluskey, approximately 200 gallons leaked onto 840 and into a storm drain. Rutherford County Emergency Management Agency and an environmental cleanup crew were called to assist.
MFRD’s Rescue 7 removed hazards by placing booms and several bags of oil dry to limit the runoff.
“With several agencies on scene, we all did a great job of communicating and working together,” said Cranford, who also praised the suppression efforts of MFRD and RCFRD.
