Special Kids’ Camp Ability Coming to a Close

Local nonprofit Special Kids Therapy & Nursing Center’s Camp Ability 2017 is coming to a close today. We have had an amazing summer with 90 campers and 4 Ability Buddies.

Camp Ability provides a safe and affordable place, where children with special needs can continue receiving the care they need in the summer months. Camp also keeps these children physically active and socially involved with their peers while their parents can maintain working during the summer months.  Special Kids is able to carry out its mission to serve Jesus Christ by caring for His children in the summer months through Camp Ability.

The campers and counselors of Camp Ability 2017 were busy focusing on their theme “Jesus is my Super Hero” and 1 John 4:4, “…Greater is He who is in me than the one who is in the world.”

Campers experienced a wide-variety of activities this summer including: Bible Study, Music, Fire House, MTSU Pool, Arts and Crafts, Puppet Show, Gymnastics, Dance Party, Snow Cones, Murfreesboro Miracle Field, Karate, Soccer Shots, MTSU Tennis, MTSU Football, Life Skills, Job Skills: Greenhouse Ministries, Jim ‘N Nick’s, Publix, and Amelia’s Closet, Bounce U, Jump Street, 4th of July presentation, Water Day, Picnic, Police Officers, K-9 Dog, Strike and Spare Bowling, Riverdale High School Volleyball, Investor Luncheon, Arcade Games, Ice Cream Truck, MTSU Men’s Basketball and an End of Year Carnival.

We are thankful to all the volunteers who helped to make this summer so very memorable along with North Boulevard Church of Christ who blessed us with the use of their beautiful facility.

The following foundations help support Camp Ability’s ongoing activities: The Healing Trust, The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, Richard Siegel Foundation, United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties, Autism Speaks and Walmart.

Camp Ability of Special Kids is a Christian, summer day camp for children and youth with special needs ages 6-25. The seven-week day camp is held during the months of June and July each year with the focus on Jesus Christ and serving each camper. Camp is designed to allow children with special needs to participate in an interactive, social and fun environment. Camp Ability’s caring staff emphasize children’s abilities rather than disabilities and find ways for all campers to participate in activities.
