Special Kids, Nourish Food Bank Collecting Goods for Storm Victims

In an effort to assist with recovery efforts throughout the state of Tennessee following the deadly storms of March 3, 2020, Special Kids Therapy & Nursing Center is calling on the help of participants in the 9th Annual Special Kids Race.

With the help of Nourish Food Bank, a charity organization based out of Rutherford County that serves on average more than 1,100 individuals every month, donations will be collected at packet pick-up for the March 7th event. Goods can be dropped off Friday at the New Vision Baptist Church as runners come to register ahead of the 15K, 10K, 5K, or one-mile family fun run Saturday morning.

Director of Development at Special Kids, Stephanie Folkmann, spoke on the project saying, “For a community like ours that’s always been so supportive of our what we do here in Murfreesboro, it just makes sense to use what we plan to be nearly three thousand people at Saturday’s race for another great purpose… The least we can do is pay that forward and continue that spirit of giving to others that need help.”

Organizers are asking that donors bring tarps/blankets, hygiene products, or canned food. The goods will be collected, and distributed as part of their outreach in Nashville, Davidson County, and the surrounding areas affected by a mid-week outbreak of devastating tornadoes and strong winds.

At least 24 Tennesseans lost their lives in the midst of the storms, with dozens more still missing in other areas including Putnam County. Governor Bill Lee has since declared a state of emergency as recovery efforts continue throughout the volunteer state.

Special Kids is a Christian therapy and nursing center for children with special needs. The Murfreesboro-based ministry started with one child in 1998 and has grown to serve over 4,500 children from 19 counties in middle Tennessee.
