Swearing-In Ceremony of Mayor, City Council Members for Sept. 3

General Sessions Judge Toby Gilley will administer the oath of office to the reelected Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland and City Council members Madelyn Scales Harris, Austin Maxwell, and Jami Averwater, during a special ceremony, Thursday, Sept. 3, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at the Murfreesboro City Hall Council Chambers.

Who: Reelected Mayor Shane McFarland and City Council members Madelyn Scales Harris, Austin Maxwell, and Jami Averwater will be sworn in.

What: Official installation and administration of the oath of office by General Sessions Judge Toby Gilley.

When: Thursday, Sept. 3, 2026 – 4:00 p.m.

The swearing-in ceremony will be televised live on Murfreesboro CityTV. A reception will follow in the Rotunda.

Following the ceremony and reception, Public Comment will begin at approximately 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers, followed by the regularly scheduled Murfreesboro City Council meeting at 6:00 p.m.
