Founded by the Discovery Center at Murfree Spring, the Tennessee STEAM Festival is a 10-day celebration of science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) featuring events and workshops in East, Middle, and West Tennessee. This statewide festival, presented in partnership with the Memphis Museum of Science & History, the Adventure Science Center in Nashville, the Creative Discovery Museum in Chattanooga, the Muse in Knoxville, and Hands On! Discovery Center in Johnson City, will run from Friday, October 13th, through Sunday, October 22nd.
The festival’s kickoff event, STEAM-a-Palooza, will occur on October 14th from 12 to 4 PM at the Discovery Center at Murfree Spring, and the Lantern Parade, winner of the Tennessee Association of Museums’ 2022 Award for Public Programs, will also take place at the Discovery Center on Thursday, October 19th, from 5:30 to 7 PM. Other events include the STEAM Festival at Market Square in Knoxville, M.D. Anderson Planetarium shows in Jackson, and more.
“We are thrilled to announce the return of the Tennessee STEAM Festival,” said Tara MacDougall, President and CEO of the Discovery Center. “Thanks to the ongoing support from FRANKE and the Nashville Chapter of the American Chemical Society, we’re able to once again bring together scientists, engineers, artists, and experts from various fields to engage and inspire curious minds of all ages. I would also like to thank our educational partners across the state for helping us highlight the contributions of STEAM in our everyday lives and ignite the passion for learning in Tennessee’s future leaders and thinkers.”
With additional support from the Rutherford County Visitors Bureau, the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce, and the Tennessee Academy of Science, the Tennessee STEAM Festival showcases a variety of programs hosted by museums, schools, community centers, and other attractions in the state. From interactive exhibits to educational workshops, this event engages young learners in professional pathways, instilling the importance of STEAM domains in Tennessee’s youth.
