Travis Manion Foundation to Host Annual 9/11 Heroes Run in Murfreesboro

On Saturday, September 13, 2025, the Travis Manion Foundation will host its annual 9/11 Heroes Run in Murfreesboro to honor the courage, sacrifice, and legacy of all those who responded to the tragic events of September 11, 2001.

The event will feature both a 5K Run and a One-Mile Fun Run, with a scenic course weaving through Murfreesboro’s historic downtown, including Main Street and the Square.

Road Closures & Community Impact

To ensure the safety of participants and spectators, road closures will begin as follows:

  • 6:00 AM – Roads leading to and from the Square will close for setup.
  • 7:30–7:45 AM – Additional closures for police route inspection.
  • 7:30–9:30 AM – Rolling closures will remain in effect as runners progress through the course. Roads will reopen behind runners as the race clears.

Efforts have been made to minimize disruptions for those attending the Murfreesboro Farmers Market or visiting downtown restaurants. The only extended closures will be:

  • S. Maples at W. Main to Vine Street
  • Vine Street between the parking garage entrance and S. Church Street

Visitors will still have full access to the downtown parking garage via SE Broad Street.

Honoring Service & Sacrifice

The 9/11 Heroes Run pays tribute to the brave first responders at the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, and in Pennsylvania, as well as to the military members who served in the wars that followed.

Travis Manion, for whom the foundation is named, made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in Iraq. Awarded the Silver Star, he is remembered for his heroic actions in pulling two fellow Marines to safety under sniper fire before being fatally wounded.

The opening ceremony will feature a bagpipe-led procession from N. Maple to Civic Plaza, accompanied by a color guard representing the fire department, police department, EMS, and military.

This year’s Guest of Honor will be General Keith Huber, with Senator Shane Reeves delivering remarks as Guest Speaker.
