UPDATE from City of Murfreesboro’s EOC

The City of Murfreesboro’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) remains activated at the Murfreesboro Police Department Headquarters as more inclement and potentially dangerous weather is expected into the evening hours.

According to the National Weather Service, Rutherford County is under a Tornado Watch until 10:00 pm CST. Additional rain and high/sustainable winds are possible.

“Our main concern with the high winds anticipated for this evening is the possibility of falling trees and power lines due to the heavily saturated ground,” said Fire Rescue Chief Mark Foulks.

The following roads in the city limits remain closed:

  • 600 Block of Bradyville Pike near Chelsey Place Pond
  • Armstrong Valley Road from Veterans Pkwy to Thompson Road and between Hwy 99 and Veterans Pkwy
  • College Street at Railroad overpass
  • Cherry Lane at Siegel Park
  • East Overall Creek at Old Salem Road
  • St. Andrews from Hwy 99 to Veterans Pkwy

With the west fork of the Stones River expected to peak higher than earlier in the week, first responders are working to notify residents in the cabins along West Main near Bridge Avenue. Other surrounding areas that are possibly at risk are Molloy Lane and the mobile home parks along the greenway off of West College.

The Parks and Recreation Department has closed all trailheads, greenways, and the Walter Hill Park until further notice. These sites are considered dangerous.

Several city departments have crews on standby for quick and efficient response to any emergencies.

Numbers to know:

For high water on roads inside the city limits, please contact the City of Murfreesboro Street Department at 615-893-4380. County roads should be reported to Rutherford County Emergency Management Agency at 615-898-7764.

Power outages for Middle Tennessee Electric Membership Corporation users need to call 1-877-777-9111 and Murfreesboro Electric Department customers should call 615-893-5515.

If you find yourself in a high water emergency, please dial 9-1-1 immediately.

“If you are able to stay in and enjoy a nice, safe evening at home,” says Foulks, “we highly recommend it.”
