Volunteer Chaplain Leonard Rader Passed Away

The Smyrna Police Department regrets to inform everyone that last night Volunteer Chaplain Leonard Rader passed away after a valiant struggle with cancer. Chaplain Rader had been serving as a Volunteer Chaplain for almost 8 years. In that 8 years Chaplain Rader had been called out numerous times to give the news to someone that a loved one had passed away and Chaplain Rader met the emotional and spiritual needs of many families that were struggling with the loss of a loved one. Chaplain Rader had often volunteered his services to citizens that were in need of a pastor for a wedding or a funeral. And Chaplain Rader counseled many police officers, dispatchers, and other employees as they dealt with their own personal crisis. To Chaplain Rader’s wife Linda and the rest of his family please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers as you deal with your loss. The members of the Smyrna Police Department are very proud to have served alongside a wonderful public servant such as Leonard Rader. We miss you already Chaplain.
