Wings and Rings
Toot’s diners may enjoy “good food and fun” during the fall Wings and Rings fund-raiser to support Special Olympians from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Toot’s on Sam Ridley Parkway in Smyrna.
Sheriff’s School Resource Officers will ask customers to donate to the Special Olympics bowling tournament for Rutherford County and Murfreesboro students and adults in October.
To honor the Special Olympians and customers, Toot’s will offer the 10 wings and a 1/2 onion rings or 10 chicken fingers and a 1/2 order of Onion rings for $5.99.
Special Olympics coordinator Lou Paschall said the funds donated will pay for transportation, the games, bowling shoes and ribbons for each athlete.
“Special Olympics activities are one of the few opportunities that individuals with intellectual disabilities have to compete in athletic events,” Paschall said. “It gives them the chance to shine and gives a rare opportunity for the athlete’s non-disabled peers to show support and friendship to the Special Olympian.”
The Rutherford County community has always supported the Special Olympians’ athletic competitions, Paschall said.
She thanked Toot’s for being a “generous partner to us and our athletes over the years” and to Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh and the SROs who coordinate the fund-raiser for the Special Olympians.
