Wings & Rings for Special Olympics

Toot’s diners can enjoy “good food and fun” while donating for 525 Rutherford County athletes with intellectual disabilities to compete in the annual Special Olympics track and field meet.

Sheriff’s School Resource Officers will collect donations from Toot’s customers during the Wings & Rings fund-raiser from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 3 at Toot’s South at 2992 S. Church St. in Murfreesboro.

Toot’s is offering a Wings & Rings meal with 10 wings and a one-half order of onion rings for $5.99.

Special Olympics Chair Lou Paschall said contributions collected from Toot’s customers pay the transportation and costs for athletes to compete in Special Olympics track and field meet at 10 a.m., Friday, April 13 at MTSU. Athletes competing are adults and students from Rutherford County and Murfreesboro schools.

“The Track and Field Meet is their day to be the focus and for our community to have a chance to support and cheer on the athletes,” Paschall said. “We want it to be a wonderful day for the athletes. We especially appreciate the support of Toot’s, Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh, and the school resource officers in raising money to support this event.”

Toot’s South General Manager Matt Utterback said Toot’s supports the community.

“By having such loyal customers that continue to support us, we are able to contribute to great causes such as the Wings & Rings event,” Utterback said. “We are honored to be able to help out the Area 16 Special Olympics. Thank you to the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office for offering us the opportunity to work with such a great group.”

Sheriff Fitzhugh said the SROs and the Sheriff’s Office employees hope residents will support Wings & Rings and the Special Olympians.

“Your donations will allow the Special Olympians to showcase their athletic abilities with cheers from their families and fellow students,” Fitzhugh said.
