Halloween 2026 in Murfreesboro: Every Family Event in One Place
Halloween in Rutherford County is not one big event so much as a month of small, well-run ones, and most of them are aimed squarely at kids who like costumes more than scares. The city's parks department carries a lot of it, the Discovery Center adds three evening parties, and Smyrna and La Vergne each throw their own. Here is the whole October lineup in one place, with the gentle picks flagged for younger kids.
Early October: start at the museum
The Great Pumpkin Festival: Monsters in the Museum — Oct. 1, 2 and 3, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Discovery Center, $15 ($8 members). Costumes, face painting, crafts, a Monster Mash dance party and food trucks. It's an indoor, well-lit, not-scary Halloween, which makes it the best first pick for preschoolers. Mid-October: nature-center fall
Wild Rumpus at the Wilderness Station — Wed., Oct. 14, 5 to 6:30 p.m., $5 a person or $20 a family. There's a live animal program, a storybook trail, pumpkin painting and hot drinks. Costumes are welcome, but nothing scary.
McFadden Fall Festival and Haunted Hallways — Thu., Oct. 15, 5 to 8 p.m., free. Carnival games, a DJ and food, plus a haunted hallway that older kids can choose to walk through.
Cannonsburgh Village After Dark — Fri. and Sat., Oct. 16 and 17, 6 to 9 p.m., $5 (5 and under free). The pioneer village after sunset, lantern-lit. It's atmospheric rather than frightening. Saturday's listing.
Lantern Parade at the Discovery Center — Thu., Oct. 22. Kids make a lantern starting at 5:30, and the glowing procession steps off around 6:40. It's free and part of the Tennessee STEAM Festival.
The big weekend: Oct. 23 and 24
Barfield Bash Halloween Carnival — Fri. and Sat., 5 to 9 p.m. at Barfield Crescent Park. Entry is free, and games take tickets. The Avenue of Treats trick-or-treat trail is the draw for little ones. The separate Old Scream Road walk later in the evening is billed as possibly scary for small children, so plan your exit. Saturday's listing.
Not So Haunted Hayride with Goldilocks — Fri. and Sat., 5 to 7 p.m. at Barfield, $5. Fairy-tale characters and live storytelling along a gentle hayride route. It's the one to pick if you have a four-year-old. Saturday's listing.
a-MAZE-ing Glow Nights at Lucky Ladd Farms — Oct. 23 and 24 in Eagleville, ticketed. The corn maze after dark. The farm expects October sellouts, so buy ahead.
50th Annual Harvest Days at Cannonsburgh Village — Sat., Oct. 24, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., free. It isn't Halloween, but it's the best daytime fall outing of the month: blacksmithing, clogging, crafts and a car show.
Halloween in the Park in Smyrna — Sat., Oct. 24, 3 to 9 p.m. at Sharp Springs Park, free. Candy booths, inflatables, games and costume contests.
Goblins and Goodies at the Park in La Vergne — Sat., Oct. 24, noon to 2 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, free. A candy trail and a zombie dance, with the costume contest by age group at 1:30.
The last week
Face Your Fears: Snakes and Spiders — Thu., Oct. 29, 1 p.m. at the Wilderness Station. Meet the local snakes and spiders up close and learn which ones are harmless. Kids tend to leave braver than they arrived.
Toddler Spooktacular at Patterson Park — Fri., Oct. 30, 10 to 11:30 a.m., ages 2 to 5. A costume parade, candy and games, all timed for the nap schedule.
Trick or Treat Around the Historic Rutherford County Square — Fri., Oct. 30, from 3 p.m., free. Downtown merchants hand out candy around the courthouse. It's the classic, and it's walkable with a stroller.
