Addict at Murfreesboro Little Theatre
acTEENg makes its debut at MLT with Jerome McDonough’s “Addict”
Director Jamie Leigh Stevens describes ‘Addict’ as, “a show that puts human faces on the epidemic of teenagers suffering from drug addiction.” But acTEENg aims to tackle more than this one issue.
Stevens is working to provide teens with the opportunity to produce ‘age-relevant’ art in community theatre in the Rutherford County area.
acTEENg’s goal is “delivering shows that put this age group at the center of the story. We aim to produce shows that tell relatable and realistic stories that have as much of an impact on the performers as the audiences.”
According to Stevens, teen performers are “frequently stuck playing characters decades older than they are or singing through the chorus lines of some Disney-esque, dance-heavy, and overdone musicals.” While such roles can provide them with learning experiences, they don’t always offer opportunities for teens to address issues they may be facing in their own day to day lives.
acTEENg spotlights actors ages 13-19 but adults are welcome as well.
“Addict” opens Friday, March 9th at Murfreesboro Little Theatre and will run for two weekends: March 9th-11th, 16th-18th with Friday & Saturdayevening performances at 7 pm and Sunday matinees at 2 pm.
Standard tickets are $10; MLT Member tickets are $5; tickets for students and seniors are $7.
Founded in 1962, MLT is an all-volunteer 501 (c) 3 community theatre and Rutherford County’s oldest theatrical arts organization. MLT is located at 702 Ewing Boulevard. To make reservations, please visit www.mltarts.com or call 615-893-9825.
