Calling all artists: Discovery Center seeking submissions for new exhibit

Deadline for entry: March 23

This April, the Discovery Center will open We Are Tennessee, an exhibit exploring concepts of our state’s cultural identity and what it means to be a Tennessean.

Artists of all ages and mediums from Tennessee are invited to submit their work exploring the theme through representations of the people of Tennessee. More information about the exhibit is available at www.explorethedc.org/WeAreTN.

Artwork should represent children, families, community, and the people that live in Tennessee. Drawing, painting, and photography submissions are preferred. However, visual artists may approach this call through any medium, and written work and multimedia files will be accepted.

We Are Tennessee is a wonderful, collaborative opportunity to engage people from different backgrounds in conversations about who we are as a community,” said Tara MacDougall, president and CEO of the Discovery Center. “We’re excited to host this exhibit and shine a spotlight on what makes this state so special—and our community so diverse.”

One of the museum’s major supporters, Ginny Togrye, is Murfreesboro’s painter laureate this year, and she is undertaking this project. Her vision is to create a mural using artists’ concepts of identity. Each depiction of a Tennessean will be woven into a universal tapestry that celebrates the traditions, identity, and culture of Tennessee.
