Evelyn Ferrell obituary

Evelyn Marie Graves Ferrell, age 89, was born in Knoxville, Tennessee on January 23, 1929, and died November 26, 2018. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles C. and Emma Lee Vandergriff Graves.

Mrs. Ferrell was also preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Robert David “Bob” Ferrell. She is survived by their three daughters, Lee Polk and her husband John of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Lynn Anton and her husband Jim of Morganton, North Carolina, and Dawn Clements and her husband Bruce of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren, Michelle Polk Harvill and her husband Chuck of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, John Houston Polk III of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Skye Haralson Graham and her husband Chris of Cornelius, North Carolina, Windy Haralson Gardner and her husband Charlie of Moorpark, California, Will Clements of Naples, Florida, Ross Clements and his wife Kate of Houston, Texas, and Ben Clements and his wife Amy of Missouri City, Texas; and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday at First Baptist Church of Murfreesboro, Tennessee with Rev. Noel Schoonmaker officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 1:30 PM until the 2:00 PM service at the church. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery with Charlie Gardner, Chris Graham, John Houston Polk III, Chuck Harvill, Will, Ross, and Ben Clements serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the First Baptist Church Ida Read Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Ferrell graduated from Franklin High School and attended Bethel Women’s College in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. Bob and Evelyn were married in Franklin, Tennessee and spent many years in Nashville, Jackson, and Murfreesboro, Tennessee and Indianapolis, Indiana. Evelyn was employed by Southern Baptist Sunday School Board in Nashville and later worked 28 years at Equifax in Jackson, Tennessee and Indianapolis, Indiana. She was a Sunday School teacher, active choir member, and participated in mission organizations at First Baptist Church, Jackson, and Northside Baptist Church in Indianapolis. She was an active member of the Northside Baptist Church “Joy” senior group and “Young at Heart” at Murfreesboro First Baptist Church. Community service included leadership positions in the Jackson Junior Garden Club, Girl Scouts, and the Parent Teacher Association.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the nurses at St. Thomas West Hospital for the care and love they gave Mrs. Ferrell. In lieu of flowers, friends may give a memorial gift to the First Baptist Church Building Fund in Murfreesboro, Tennessee in memory of Mrs. Ferrell.
