Ford Officers of the Month January 2017
Five Rutherford County Sheriff’s deputies who excelled in their jobs earned Officers of the Month awards from Ford of Murfreesboro.
School Resource Officer Shane Vaughn, Lt. Kenneth Barrett and Deputies Nick Coble, Ramy Ibrahim and Lorenzo Osborne received watches from General Manager Andy Obeissy of Ford of Murfreesboro.
SRO Vaughn safely recovered a handgun from a student at a Rutherford County School.
While being shot at, Lt. Barrett and Deputy Coble took a wanted felon into custody.
Deputy Ibrahim extinguished a fire and saved a family’s home.
Deputy Osborne helped coordinate the opening of the new General Sessions Court at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center.
Obeissy said, “We are honored to recognize men and women that serve our community. These officers epitomize the values of service and leadership and Ford of Murfreesboro appreciates their contribution to our local community.”
Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh said, “We are proud of our officers who put their lives on the line every day, from protecting children at school, to arresting wanted fugitives, to extinguishing fires to transporting prisoners. We commend these officers who earned the Officer of the Month honors.”
Vaughn safely obtained the .25-caliber handgun loaded with three rounds and another 174 rounds of ammunition in the student’s backpack. The student thought it was cool to own a firearm.
The investigation began when a teacher notified Vaughn about a student with a handgun in the classroom. Vaughn recovered the handgun and ammunition in the student’s backpack. The weapon was stolen from Davidson County.
While patrolling, Barrett and Coble of the Active Crime Enforcement Unit spotted a suspect wanted for a felony charge. The suspect saw the deputies, parked his car and ran across a field. The deputies drove into the field chasing him.
“As we closed in, he pulled a pistol and leveled it at us and fired numerous shots while running across the field,” Lt. Barrett said.
Deputy Coble prepared to defend himself but Deforrest took off running, then tossed the pistol. The suspect eventually fell in front of Coble’s vehicle and surrendered. The suspect was charged with attempted murder of the deputies along with other charges. He is awaiting trial.
Ibrahim responded to a house fire on Chadwick Drive where he found the oven on fire. He quickly doused the fire with an extinguisher.
Due to his quick actions, Ibrahim saved the homeowners’ thousands of dollars and kept the family in their home that night.
Osborne helped prepare the opening of General Sessions Court at the Adult Detention Center by obtaining the daily paper work and communicating with the judge, district attorney, public defender and clerks to keep the court running efficiently.
He provides court security for the judicial staff and moves prisoners safely.
