Middle Tennessee Electric Bringing Good Energy

La Vergne Residents Clear Out Old Electronics at eWaste Collection Event

For 30 years, La Vergne resident Mike Kasuboski held on to an old CRT television, not out of nostalgia, but because he simply couldn’t find a place to get rid of it.

“I couldn’t find a place to take it,” Kasuboski explained. “I tried three different places to get rid of it, and then I tucked it away out of everyone’s way.”

On Saturday, September 6, Kasuboski finally let go of the 100-pound TV during the City eWaste Free Electronic Dumpster event at the La Vergne Senior Center. The TV, along with dozens of other televisions, printers, small appliances, and more, is now on its way to being reduced, reused, or recycled—despite the rainy weather.

Electronics contain a rich mix of materials, from plastics and glass to rare earth elements and valuable metals. According to a 2006 U.S. Geological Survey, recycling just one million cell phones can recover 35,000 pounds of copper, 772 pounds of silver, 75 pounds of gold, and 33 pounds of palladium.

“Almost everything’s going to get broken down, and the parts get aggregated and resold on the commodities or parts market,” said Erin Westrick with City eWaste. “Some items will be melted down for precious metals, and if there’s something we can re-home, we’ll do that too, because it’s all about ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.’”

Residents like Wade Todd also appreciated the opportunity to responsibly clear out clutter. “I needed to get rid of it, and I didn’t know where to take it,” Todd said. “It’s great to know that we have something like this event.”

For those who missed this season’s collection, there are several ongoing options:

  • Rutherford County Recycling Center in La Vergne (for Rutherford County residents)
  • Sims Lifecycle Services in La Vergne (for local Nashville households/residents)
  • Ezell Pike Convenience Center in Nashville (for Davidson County residents)

Be sure to check restrictions and eligibility before visiting. The next eWaste event at the La Vergne Senior Center is tentatively scheduled for spring 2026. Stay updated by following the City of La Vergne Facebook page or signing up for notifications at LaVergneTN.gov.
