MTSU’s Big Career Fair Breaks Records with Student and Employer Turnout

Middle Tennessee State University’s Campus Recreation Center was filled with opportunity at the annual Big Career Fair on Thursday, Sept. 25. Hosted by the Career Development Center, the event brought together 220 employers representing industries from Tractor Supply to the Tennessee General Assembly, welcoming a record-breaking 2,082 MTSU students and alumni.

For many, the fair provided more than just job prospects. “It was such a great opportunity, especially for international students like me,” said Mahina Pranti, an engineering management graduate student from Bangladesh. “It boosted my confidence and helped sharpen my interview skills as I prepare for a career in civil engineering.”

The career fair is designed to serve all students, regardless of their academic path. “We encourage our students to think about gaining experience early and often so that, by graduation, they feel confident and competent in their next steps,” said Career Development Center Director Beka Moore. Participating employers are required to offer paid internships or full-time positions starting at $45,000 or more.

Students like senior supply chain management major Hunter Greer found the event invaluable. “I talked with several employers in my field, made good connections, and networked,” Greer said, noting his interest in internships, job shadowing, and career opportunities.

While the Big Career Fair is a major fall event, the Career Development Center provides ongoing resources and guidance to help students and alumni prepare for internships, jobs, or graduate school. “We want students to see us as the bridge to opportunity,” Moore said. “The earlier and more often they connect with us, the better we can support their success.”

The Career Development Center is located in Room 328 of the Keathley University Center. For more information, visit mtsu.edu/career or call 615-898-2500.
