Oakland High School Football Hall of Fame
The Oakland High School Football Hall of Fame selection committee announces the Class of 2019 Hall of Fame members to be inducted on Friday, October 18, 2019 at the Oakland vs Riverdale football game. Dr. O. Tom Johns and Jack Jones will be inducted as 2019 Hall of Fame members.
Dr. Johns was a team physician for Rutherford County athletes for over 30 years. Through Dr. John’s involvement as a team doctor, Oakland High School athletes, coaches and families received excellent care and support. He was presented the Thomas A. Brady award in 2010 from The American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine for his dedication to excellence in sports medicine in his community. Dr. Johns was also chosen to serve America’s best as a physician for track and field at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia.
He received his B.S. degree from Middle Tennessee State University and his medical degree from University of Tennessee, Memphis. His orthopedic training and residency was at Vanderbilt University hospitals.
Jack Jones, Oakland High School Class of 2014, was a three year starter as an offensive lineman for the Patriots from 2012-2014 seasons. He helped Oakland to a 25-3 record during his Junior and Senior season. He also was awarded the Tennessee 5/6A Mr. Football Lineman of the Year in 2013 and 2014, becoming the only two time winner of that award. Jack was also named a two time all state player, and an Under Armour All American Team member.
Jack went on to play for the University of Tennessee Volunteers and had twelve career starts at offensive guard. Jack received a degree in Communications Studies from the University of Tennessee in 2019 and is pursuing a career in real estate.
