Riverdale High’s ‘Brave the Shave’ raises nearly $23,000 for childhood cancer research
Riverdale High School recently raised nearly $23,000 with its 13th annual Brave the Shave fundraiser benefiting the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.
Brave the Shave is a signature head-shaving event to raise funds for St. Baldrick’s, which provides lifesaving childhood cancer research. Participants registered to shave their heads or chop their locks to support the Foundation’s mission.
Riverdale exceeded its initial goal of $20,000. More than 90 people participated, including students, staff and community members.
The event holds special significance at Riverdale and began after a member of the school community was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a form of childhood cancer that develops in nerve tissue. Every organization on Riverdale’s 2,000-plus student campus is involved from Student Council to Band to Cheerleaders to JROTC.
