Saturday fatality crash
On Saturday, December 1, 2018, at approximately 6:00 pm, Murfreesboro Police Officers responded to a two-vehicle crash near 586 Fortress Blvd. The crash involved a 2005 GMC Sierra pickup truck and a 2018 Nissan Titan pickup truck. The investigation revealed the Sierra was traveling northbound on Fortress Blvd. when it travelled into the oncoming lanes of traffic and collided with the Titan.
Personnel of Rutherford County Emergency Medical services initially responded on foot due to the proximity to their station and found the occupants of the Sierra ejected and gravely injured and the occupants of the Titan with minor injuries. RCEMS was assisted on scene by members of Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue Department.
The passenger of the Sierra was transported to St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The driver of the Sierra was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries. Both occupants of the Titan were transported to Stonecrest Medical Center. The driver was treated and released. The passenger remains hospitalized.
The driver of the GMC Sierra has been identified as 18-year-old Eric King (dob 1-29-2000) of Murfreesboro. The passenger is 17 years old and is from Smyrna.
The Titan was driven by William Stephens (dob 5-4-1972) with Christy Stephens (dob 12-17- 1975) as the passenger, both of Rockvale.
The crash is still under investigation by the Fatal Accident Crash Team (F.A.C.T.). The initial investigation has determined not wearing seatbelts to be factors in the deaths.
