The Webb School receives educational grant and honeybee colonies from Honeybee Tennessee
The Webb School community is abuzz with excitement about its new beekeeping program! This Spring, the School received a generous educational grant from Honeybee Tennessee, a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating communities about the important role honeybees play in both agriculture and the environment.
Through the grant, Webb, an independent college-preparatory school in Bell Buckle, Tenn., received two honeybee colonies, numerous hives, and the beekeeping equipment necessary for the immediate establishment of an on-campus apiary. This new apiary serves as a living laboratory, offering distinct learning opportunities for students while directly supporting local pollinator health and broader sustainability efforts in the Bell Buckle community.
Managed by Webb’s Director of Wilderness Instruction and Leadership Development (W.I.L.D.) / Outdoor Programs, Joe Griggs ’05, students have already begun studying environmental stewardship, agriculture, and pollinator conservation thanks to the donation. Since 2017, Honeybee Tennessee has inspired citizens to protect and foster our State’s honeybee population through impactful education and outreach programs. By extending this grant to The Webb School, the organization is helping cultivate the next generation of environmental leaders, like those enrolled in The Webb School’s reimagined W.I.L.D. Signature Program.
“The Webb School is incredibly grateful to Honeybee Tennessee for its investment in experiential education and environmental awareness, and looks forward to watching this sweet partnership thrive,” said Griggs.
