Tales to Tails: Read to a Therapy Dog at Smyrna Library

If you have a child who reads fine at home and freezes when anyone is listening, this is the program worth driving for. Bella is a certified therapy dog, and children sign up for a ten-minute slot to read to her.

She does not correct anyone. She does not sigh when a word takes three tries. That is the entire point, and it works — reluctant readers who will not read aloud to a parent will happily read to a dog.

When: Thursday, September 3, 2026, 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., in ten-minute slots
Where: Smyrna Public Library
Cost: Free.

You must reserve a slot. Call the library at 615-459-4884 or email the Smyrna youth services team. Slots run on the first and third Thursdays, so if this week fills up, the next round is not far off.
