Middle Tennessee Electric and TVA Celebrate 350th Home Uplift Renovation
Middle Tennessee Electric (MTE) and the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) marked a major milestone on Wednesday with the completion of the 350th Home Uplift renovation, underscoring their shared commitment to helping homeowners lower energy costs and improve comfort.
The celebration was hosted at the home of Susie and Garry Tanner of Woodbury, who recently received extensive upgrades through the program. Their renovations included a new heating and cooling unit, ductwork sealing, a water heater replacement, added attic insulation, air sealing, and other high-impact improvements—all provided at no cost to the family.
“This program is about more than saving energy, it’s about changing lives,” said Chris Jones, MTE president/CEO. “When we help members like the Tanners, they benefit from lower bills, greater comfort, and lasting improvements in their homes.”
Launched in 2020, the MTE–TVA partnership has delivered Home Uplift upgrades to hundreds of qualifying households across Middle Tennessee. Participants save an average of more than $400 per year on energy bills. Typical improvements include insulation, ductwork replacement, HVAC tune-ups, water heater upgrades, and new energy-efficient appliances.
Ray Knotts, TVA senior director of demand management, highlighted the broader regional impact: “Across the Tennessee Valley, TVA and local power companies have completed more than 7,500 Home Uplift projects since 2018. Each project reduces the energy burden for families and strengthens our communities.”
For the Tanners, the results are already clear. “We really appreciate all the work they’ve done for us,” said Garry Tanner. “It’s improved the house considerably.”
The Home Uplift Program continues to serve as a cornerstone of MTE and TVA’s mission to provide affordable, reliable energy while enhancing quality of life for the people they serve.
